If you have ever hit a deer while driving your car you will know that your insurance company, for determining fault purposes, will attempt to verify that you actually hit a deer as opposed to being in an accident with another car or simply having run your car yourself into a tree, etc . . . Making sure your insurance company can verify that you were not at fault can help prevent your auto insurance premiums from rising due to an “at-fault” accident. If the police stop at the scene try and get them to put the fact that a deer was involved in an accident report. The tow truck driver may also note “deer-damage” on the work-order he has you sign. If you have a camera, take photos of any fur, blood, or antler dents and tracks.
